A note from the Chairman of The Lancing Club, Andrew Farquharson
I was delighted to be asked to be Chairman of your club at the AGM in May 2014.
I have met many of you at previous OL events through the years due to my long involvement with the OL Club. In 1977 I took over from Peter Birts as secretary to the Music and Arts Society for five years, under the presidency of Sir Peter Pears OL. I then became editor of the newsletter/magazine for 17 years until 1999. This was followed by another four years on the committee, continuing to run social events including the Dinner and the Summer Reception until 2003, when I decided that perhaps some fresh faces should be involved. I am now very happy to be back on board again.
The most important job I have on my desk at present is to continue with the updating of the OL Club. There are many aspects under review and probably the most important is the communication aspect between the Club, its members and the College. I hope you will have noticed many improvements over the past year or so. The first of these has been changing the old Magazine into three up-to-date Reviews.
I am fortunate that alongside me I have a very strong committee and team of officers and a supportive President, Sir Tim Rice. I enjoy working alongside Dominic Oliver, the Head Master, and using each other's strengths for mutual benefit.
The Club will continue to host many events and these include the Summer Party in London, the Young OL party, City Club, the Autumn Dinner and the Christmas Carol Service & Party. Many of these are totally free and others are well subsidised.
The sports clubs also have their own social events which are generally open to all OLs.
It is your Club and I welcome all constructive input and can be contacted directly by telephone on (01903) 872576
