 It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Lancing College website. I hope that you will find it both interesting and useful.
As Head Master of Lancing I feel very privileged to lead a school with a proud history and an exciting future. My aim is to ensure that Lancing continues to go from strength to strength as the leading school in the area and one of Britain’s great independent schools.
Lancing is the senior school of the Woodard Corporation, with an enviable and growing reputation for academic achievement. Our pupils have performed very well at both GCSE and A Level examinations in recent years, despite the fact that we are not a particularly selective school. Indeed, we pride ourselves on nurturing individual pupils and on inspiring them to get the best out of themselves whatever their abilities. Academic progress and success is at the heart of our business, but we are not just about hard work as you will see from the statement on our home page. We believe passionately that a good education encompasses so much more than academic work and good examination results. At Lancing we believe in exposing pupils to an exceptionally wide range of experiences and opportunities and we have the necessary facilities, the time and the commitment so to do. Our pupils continue to prove that it is possible to have both breadth of opportunity and excellence of achievement - our achievements in art, sport, drama and music are impressive, and I hope that this website will give you a flavour of these.
Our Chapel is one of the landmarks of the south coast. However, it is so much more than just a wonderful building. It is the heart of our school, symbolising and inspiring the value we place on tolerance, kindness, respect and friendship and underpinning our absolute commitment to strong and effective pastoral care. Our pupils feel at home from their first day with us. They are happy and busy and go on to achieve extraordinary things when they leave.
