The Society of the Friends of Lancing Chapel was founded in 1948 to support the completion and maintenance of the fabric of Lancing College Chapel by raising public awareness of the needs of the building, consulting professional experts, giving advice and inviting financial contributions from the public and other charitable trusts.
The west end of Lancing Chapel remains unfinished and it is the aim of the Friends to complete it with a suitable porch, new doors and glazing. The Crypt and other parts of the existing building need further improvement. At the same time the Chapel requires an on-going programme of routine maintenance and stone conservation. Lancing Chapel is a grade 1 listed building of national architectural and historic importance. The work of the Friends helps to relieve the College of the financial and practical burden of maintaining its remarkable Chapel and to ensure the survival and public accessibility of this masterpiece of 19th Century gothic revival architecture. We also publish an illustrated Guide Book, leaflets and postcards which can be purchased in the Chapel.
