Last Saturday night saw the annual Charity House Song competition. It gave a good excuse for lots of dressing up, particularly boys in dresses, and lots of make up, strange hair and smiling faces. There was a great deal to enjoy. Sankey's opened the evening with a very professional dance routine, to Cheryl Cole's "Fight for This Love"; Second's performed an energetic interpretation of the Spice Girls' "Wannabe". Gibbs' gave one of the most entertaining performances of the evening with an extravagantly choreographed and costumed "Holding out for a Hero", Manor sang and danced memorably to "Hound Dog", Fields', with big hair and loud make up, sang "the Timewarp" and Handford performed Gloria Gaynor's "I will survive". Their singers included their Housemistress, who sang, with great gusto, all about survival! Handford were awarded first prize in the competition, however the highlight of the evening was the performance of the Slovenian students who are currently visiting Lancing. With some very fine accordion playing, they gave an insight into their folk music and managed to involve large parts of the audience in some traditional dancing. Congratulations to everybody who participated.
