The St Nicolas Association was established in 2002 and membership is automatic to parents and guardians of pupils who are currently at the College. It is an important group within the College family providing a social network for parents as well as opportunities to promote Lancing to a wider audience.
The objects of the Association are first and foremost to arrange social and other functions for parents and friends and any money raised as a result is used to provide extra facilities and amenities for the pupils. The SNA has provided funds for the purchase of chess clocks, a barbecue, a PA system in Great School and a portable PA system for musicians’ and general school use. Within the past year it has provided equipment and a CD player for the fitness suite and a set of tubular bells for the music department. The committee is particularly keen on encouraging pupils to make suggestions for funds for specific projects.
The Association produces a Parents' Directory each year, to assist parents/guardians in contacting one another to make arrangements for lift-sharing /sleepovers /parties etc. This is an opt-in directory, so if you are happy for your details to be shared with other parents, please complete this form and return it to Claire Welling by 8th October.
The Association arranges three major events each year. The winter event tends to be a black tie event, such as a Burn's Supper or Opera on the Run, and the committee has also been involved in two very sucessful gala events - the Blue Moon Ball in May 2007 and the May Ball in May 2010. Their next event is a Hog Roast for all parents on Sunday 12th September, from 12 noon in the Upper Quad. A family ticket is £10, and there will be a cash bar. Please complete this form and return it, with your cheque, to Claire Welling in the Development Office by 8th September.
In the first term of this academic year there were 3 coffee mornings and a breakfast for parents and guardians of new pupils. These were so successful that more have been held (fresh coffee, bacon butties, croissants and Danish pastries!) for parents and guardians of pupils from all years. The Cricket Pavilion is a marvellous venue and the views in the winter sunshine spectacular. We had a great time and hope to make these mornings a regular feature for informal get-togethers. The next one will be held on Saturday 9th October from 12noon to 3pm. It's a great opportunity to meet other parents before collecting your children or watching a match.
The committee of fifteen, all of whom are parents, share the responsibility for organising these events and meet regularly at the College. Any parent who wishes to be nominated to be on the committee should complete this form, including details of propser and seconder, and return it to Claire Welling by 1st October. The Annual General Meeting will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 6th October. We now have an e-mail address which is checked weekly, so should you have any suggestions or comments, do please get in touch at
