Breaking Bread at LPW
13th February 2017

Breaking bread at Lancing Prep Worthing

Budding bakers in Year 3 had brilliant fun in the school’s new food technology space, making their own plaited bread loaves from scratch.

King of the celebrity bread makers, Paul Hollywood, would have been thrilled to see the girls and boys buzzing with excitement at the results of their endeavours:

Anna:  “I enjoyed being taught a new skill, having the experience and getting my hands messy!”

Dahlia: “The things I enjoyed doing was the kneading, mixing and putting the yeast in.”

Joseph:  “I enjoyed plaiting the bread dough because it was my first time plaiting something.”

Thomas: “The best bit was kneading it.  I enjoyed all of it.”

Year 3 teacher, Francesca Milling, was delighted with the pupils’ enthusiasm and commented, “It was not just teaching the children how to make bread but teaching science in action; helping to lay down basic maths, reading and time-telling skills. We discussed food choices and the children’s confidence shone through as they independently created their very own bread from start to finish to take home to their families. We are already planning the next thing we want to make!”

Parents interested in finding out more about what the school has to offer are warmly invited to its next Open Morning on Saturday 18th March, starting at 10 am. Please telephone Kay Piper, Registrar, on 01903 201123 for more details.
