Sporting Highlights - up to 16 June 2017
We start yet again with some excellent OL cricketing news. 2016 leaver Will Fazakerley has been turning heads in the pro game of late, and has been rewarded with a contract extension by Leicestershire until 2019.
On Monday, it was announced that 2015 leaver Mason Crane has been selected for the full England T20 squad for the upcoming series against South Africa. This caps what has been a meteoric rise for a player who only two years ago was still a Lancing pupil.
Over the Half Term, Finlay S competed in the Snow Sport England British Indoor Championships in Landgraaf, Netherlands. In his first slalom race he placed second in the U18 age and third overall. In the second race he skied extremely well to finish second and win another silver medal. Finally, Finlay’s most memorable achievement of the weekend was being selected for Team GB trials in the ski cross discipline. If he is successful he will join a team of top athletes competing against some of the best skiers from across the world.
Tuesday saw the Junior House event take place. The two semi-finals saw School beat Second's and Head's beat Gibbs' to set up a showpiece final. In that game, School batted first and excellent bowling and fielding by Chappell’s Charges restricted Mole's Marauders to a measly 67 runs. Despite the prize wicket of Jeffrey K-D falling early, Head's cruised to victory to take the title.
Last Tuesday, the House Rounders competition took place. It was a great afternoon in the sun, with all teams putting their best feet forward. For the Juniors there was tough competition but Handford came out on top winning their last match 2.5 to 2 against Sankey's. The Senior competition saw a final face-off between Manor and Sankey's, with Sankey's winning 7-6.
