Mason Crane

Mason Crane, OL

Head’s 2010-2015, International Cricketer

Two weeks after leaving Lancing in 2015, Mason Crane made his Hampshire debut aged only 18. He soon became the youngest Hampshire player to take a five wicket Haul in the County Championship and became a regular in the side. He went on to play for New South Wales in March 2017, becoming their first overseas player since Imran Khan in 1985, and later that summer made his England debut aged 20 at The Ageas Bowl – his home ground. An Ashes Tour in the winter of 2017/2018 gave Mason the opportunity to make his Test debut for England.

A bout of back injuries resulted in a year out for Mason but that didn’t stop him on his trajectory of success. He has since won the One Day Cup and Vitality Blast with Hampshire and is now playing cricket for Glamorgan this season. He is also in the Welsh Fire cricket team for The Hundred

Mason says that 'without Lancing giving me the opportunity to further myself and my cricket, none of this would have been possible’. He praises Raj Maru as having had an immeasurable impact on his career, and still does to this day. Lancing gave Mason the chance to play first XI cricket for five years, starting when he was in Third Form. Captaining the team for his final two and a half years at the College gave him the leadership experience he has carried through into his career.

Having his portrait taken in the Cricket Pavilion means a lot to Mason. He describes it as a place ‘I spent so much time at Lancing, bringing back so many special memories.'
