Brief Biography for Dr Sue Holt
Dr Sue Holt was one of the seven ‘pioneer girls’ who attended Lancing for their ‘A’ levels from 1975-1977. After completing her A-levels, Sue went on to attend London University, where she undertook a degree in English Literature.
Following her university studies, Sue joined the Civil Service and was posted to Her Majesty’s Stationery Office (HMSO) in London. While working at HMSO, she applied for and was successful in securing one of the vacancies for Duty Clerks in No 10 Downing Street, during the tenure of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
After five years at No 10, Sue was posted on loan from the Civil Service to the Speaker’s Office in the House of Commons, where she worked for Lord Bernard Weatherill for two years. Upon her return to HMSO, Sue decided to further her education and undertook a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), all while continuing her full-time work.
In 1997, after completing a Senior Management Development Programme at Cranfield University, Sue made a significant career shift. She began her PhD in Key Account Management at Cranfield School of Management, where she also began lecturing and undertaking consultancy work.
Sue is currently a Visiting Fellow at Cranfield and, until this year, was a Visiting Professor at IESEG Business School in France. Her academic career has allowed her to collaborate with companies and organisations across various sectors and industries, taking her all over the world.
Alongside her academic work, Sue and her husband ran a successful canal-related small business from 2000-2024. Recently, Sue obtained her Freedom of the City of London and is now a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Marketors.
