The St Nicolas Association was established in 2002 with the aim of arranging social functions for Lancing parents and friends. The Association also has an important role within the wider Lancing College family support the school in talking to parents considering the school as well as raising funds for special projects that cannot be funded from the school’s existing resources. Parents are automatically members of the St Nicolas Association when they pay the Lancing Society fee on the termly bill.
The Association arranges three major events each year. The hugely popular Hog Roast is held for all families in the Upper Quad on the first Sunday of the Advent Term as a welcome start to the new school year. Other types of previously held events include Burns' Suppers, Quiz Suppers, Comedy Nights and Murder Mystery Evenings. The Committee has also organised four very successful black tie gala events in recent years: the Trinity Ball in May 2015, the Glitter Ball in May 2012, the May Ball in May 2010 and the Blue Moon Ball in May 2007.
The Committee, all of whom are parents, share the responsibility for organising these events and meet regularly at the College. The Annual General Meeting, when the committee members are agreed, is held every October.
Any money raised from SNA events is used for the provision of extra facilities and amenities for the pupils; for example, the purchase of chess clocks, a barbecue, a PA system in Great School and a portable PA system for musicians and general school use. The Committee is particularly keen to encourage pupils to make suggestions for funding of specific projects.
