Food

Meals at Little Lancing are freshly prepared daily. Hot meals are cooked by the Lancing College in-house caterers and we take care to provide our children with a balanced and varied diet, cooked with fresh ingredients that are responsibly sourced and, wherever possible, from local suppliers. The menus follow a three week rota - we are always happy to hear parents’ views and suggestions, which we will do our best to accommodate where we can! At the present time, daily menus may be subject to change at short notice as catering supplies are sometimes disrupted.

We cater for individual requirements where medically necessary, for religious reasons or for vegetarians and vegans. Please discuss any requirements or concerns with your child’s Key Person or the Nursery Manager. We provide cow’s milk but parents will need to provide formula or follow on milk.

Breakfast for those attending the Early Bird session is prepared in our kitchen, as is the afternoon tea meal and morning and afternoon snacks, which include fruit, yogurts, crudités or a savoury snack such as rice cakes. The Nursery staff are all food hygiene trained.

A hot lunch is served at around 11.45am with a vegetarian option available. We encourage our children to try a helping of everything and they are supervised or helped where needed. Desserts have reduced sugar recipes where possible.

We blend meals for younger children and are happy to work with parents on weaning plans for younger babies, which should be discussed with your child’s Key Person or the Nursery Manager. There is more information on weaning, or complementary food as it is sometimes now known, available online from NHS Start4Life or on the website of the Institute of Health Visiting

Please note that Little Lancing is a nut-free setting and we cannot accommodate requests for meals being brought in from home.
