Little Lancing Autumn 2020 Overview

Little Lancing was open throughout the summer with our Covid-secure measures in place. At the end of August, we said a slightly sad farewell to our Pre-school children who were ready to fly the nursery nest as they joined Reception classes in the autumn term. We have enjoyed seeing these children develop and grow in confidence, and it gave us so much joy to see them continue to play and learn with us.

At the beginning of September, we welcomed a substantial influx of very young children to the Explorers Room and our carefully planned transition moved some of our existing children up from Explorers to Investigators, and the older children from Investigators to Pre-School. We celebrated our first year of operation with delicious cupcakes for the children and staff. It was certainly a very unusual year for a brand-new nursery.

We welcomed new staff to cover our growing numbers, including a new Room Manager for Pre-School, a very experienced nursery practitioner, who took on our Deputy Manager’s maternity cover in December. We also began our apprenticeship programme.

Throughout the autumn, we followed the Covid-19 guidelines for Early Years settings and the children spent as much time out of doors as possible. When we underwent a temporary closure, it was dealt with swiftly and effectively. The support of our parents was so important to us at this time and we were delighted to welcome everyone back in early December.

Our Christmas celebrations went ahead in the three rooms and it was wonderful to see the children so excited. Looking ahead, we are quite excited too as the extension work to the Explorers Room is now virtually complete and we will be well-equipped to meet the increasing demand for places for babies in 2021.
