At the end of June 2017, several of our Lower Sixth chemists took part in Cambridge University’s annual Chemistry Challenge Competition. Pupils dealt with testing questions ranging from the chemistry of pink tap water to the multi-step synthesis of useful drug molecules. All pupils really enjoyed tackling these challenging questions and pitting their wits against over 7,000 of the best Chemistry students in the country. Abbie D and Ivan B were awarded a Copper Award and Charlotte Z, Charles L and John L achieved a Silver Award. Russell W finished in the top 0.78% entrants and in doing so he earned a Roentgenium Award; this is the first time a student from the College has won this award. As a result of his achievement, Russell attended a residential course at Cambridge University during the summer break.
