Fifth Formers join My Future Programme

As our new Fifth Formers look ahead to their GCSEs in Summer 2022, they also begin a three-year programme to explore life after Lancing. The 'My Future' programme brings together activities in a coherent plan; some of these involve pupils working together whilst others are highly personalised. 'My Future' also enables pupils to learn from the experiences of former pupils and parents during networking events. The objective is to help each pupil to leave Lancing with the best academic results they can achieve, but also with relevant employability skills and a sense of which direction they want to go. For those who are inspired to pursue a career in medicine or law, for example, the path is quite clear; for others, the focus is on keeping options open whilst exploring different possibilities.

This term started with Fifth Form pupils carrying out their Morrisby assessment and receiving their personalised profile report. A Morrisby Profile uncovers how individuals think and what they enjoy. When a pupil is unsure about subjects to choose or careers to pursue, Morrisby’s suggestions will give ideas, showing how well individuals match dependent on strengths, interests, motivations and ambitions.

Since receiving their reports, pupils have had initial conversations with Lancing Tutors which are then shared by the pupils with parents. After October Half Term they will receive a dedicated one-to-one coaching session with an independent careers specialist.

Immediately after their coaching session, Fifth Form pupils attend the annual Careers Fair where they attend four sessions from a range of 15 different careers, as well as a workshop about Degree Apprenticeships and another about Overseas Universities. Our speakers are OLs, parents and other experts who have volunteered to talk about the range of career opportunities available in their field. They also talk about the different routes into the careers, useful work experience, and how to find out more.

This year our speakers will cover the following career opportunities:

  • Sciences
  • The Civil Service
