Head Master's Welcome - June 2022

I hope that you enjoyed the Half Term break and Jubilee Bank Holiday.

The current heatwave had its happy precursor during our Founder’s Day festivities and even amid the first set of public examinations since 2019, the air of happiness continues to glow about the place. After the formalities of the service, speeches, and prize-giving we had the fun of fairground rides, picnics, a noisy inter-House Sports Day and – to close the day – a phenomenal afternoon tea provided by the Catering team. More flavours of the day can be found in the short film and slideshow embedded in this newsletter and you can also enjoy the service and speeches in full, including a highlight for many of us: our new tradition of short speeches from the four Heads of School.

As I write, the Fourth Form members of the Scouts, DofE, and CCF programmes are returning happy (albeit grimy and a little bleary) from an excellent overnight exercise and the Fifth Form are turning their minds to the Prom (a Lancing first this year) which marks the end of their GCSEs. The Lower Sixth have just completed the bones of their UCAS personal statements and the Upper Sixth are still deep in the midst of A Level exams and bearing up remarkably well. Those in the guts of public exams are the models for the Third Form, who are currently gearing up for their end of year assessments, after the fun of last week’s Junior Concert.

In short, even while the end of the year approaches the pace shows no sign of slackening. The holidays may be eagerly awaited, but in the meantime there is a real buzz in the Lancing air.

With best wishes,

Dominic Oliver
