In summer 2017, the Swimming Pool underwent extensive renovations as part of the College’s ongoing £5million refurbishment plan. Changes include a new roof, as well as new changing rooms and windows.
Following its completion in autumn, the Swimming Pool hosted our 18th Midwinter Prep Schools Gala. Comprising eight schools, it was an enjoyable event for swimmers and spectators alike, with impressive results produced all round. Notably, Lancing’s U13 team won two silvers in the freestyle and medley relays, and the younger teams positioned well in their A and B finals.
Soon after, Lancing hosted a competition against Eastbourne College for senior and junior swimmers. Both teams were neck and neck throughout, however Eastbourne clinched a win by just one point. Captain Jeff L won the 100m individual medley and 50m back, and Captain Hannah E won the 100m individual medley and 50m freestyle. The Boys’ Senior team, which includes Jeff L, Nigel W, Miles and Max H, won the freestyle relay, and John-Paul M swam the final 50m freestyle leg of the senior medley relay in a new personal best of 29 seconds. In the Junior Boys’ freestyle relay, Ben B, Ethan A H, Cameron K and Charlie B, all achieved personal best times. Charlie B also won the 50m free in 28.5 seconds. Special mention to Will P who - on his first outing for the Swimming team - swam to victory with an energetic 50m breaststroke.
Subsequently, Lancing College and Lancing Prep Hove competed at the recent IAPS (Independent Association of Prep Schools) qualifying round, where they featured in top positions. Remarkably Archie N won the 50m freestyle and is now in strong contention for qualifying for the National IAPS in June.
With a further four galas to look forward to, including the Bath Cup and Sussex Cup, it is set to be a busy term.
