Lancing College offers Scholarships for 2021 Entry

In advance of the awards for Academic Scholarships, Lancing College has announced its 2021 awards across the Arts and Sports categories. The College has awarded some 30 individual 13+ scholarships to pupils from over 20 schools across the country.

This year the awards were highly contested amongst pupils planning to join Lancing’s Third Form in September 2021. The competitive process was carried out differently, with pupils preparing and demonstrating their talents from home; interviews with College staff were held online.

Commenting on the awards, Dominic Oliver, Head Master said: ‘This was an unusual and challenging year for all pupils who were applying for scholarships. However, it was essential that we retained the integrity of the assessment process and that these were competed for and awarded in a full and open spirit of fairness. I was very impressed with how all the children adapted to the situation with diligence and good spirits. Their parents were incredibly supportive and flexible too. Being awarded a Scholarship at Lancing is an important recognition of excellence, and we look forward to welcoming them all in September.’

There was a strong field of candidates across all categories, with prizes made in Art, Music, Drama, Sports and Cricket (The Peter Robinson Award); the Ken Sherwood All-Rounder Award was offered to pupils in recognition of excellence in one or more areas.

In particular we were delighted to receive numerous strong Choral applications; our Choral Scholars regularly sing Evensong at major cathedrals across the country and perform as part of the highly regarded Lancing Chapel Choir. Alexander Mason, Director of Music commented: ‘This year we had a terrific field of candidates for Music Scholarships at Lancing. Cathedral choirs were particularly well represented with applications from choristers at Chichester, Exeter, Portsmouth, Salisbury and St Paul’s Cathedral as well as Westminster Abbey.’

The Lancing Scholarship programme enables the College to work with parents and schools to identify and foster the potential of gifted children, ensuring that they receive the best possible opportunities to develop their talent.

Scholars are expected to act as role model and ambassadors for Lancing and will be asked to play a prominent role in their area of specialism. This may well involve performing and demonstrating their talents in front of others both within and outside the school. A Lancing Scholarship is subject to informal annual review which takes place at the end of the school year.

The deadline for Scholarship applications for pupils joining in 2022 is in October 2021. Please contact our Admissions Team for further details.
