Lancing College Schools The Next Generation Of Spies

On 15 June 2024, Lancing College hosted a "Spy School", welcoming 45 prospective Year 9 students and their families. The event combined engaging spy-themed activities for the children with informative sessions for the parents.

The day commenced with brunch in the Dining Hall, hosted by Head Master, Dominic Oliver. Parents and children chatted away, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the day.

Next, the children, divided into three groups, embarked on their Spy School adventure, immersing themselves in a variety of sessions designed to ignite their curiosity and hone their skills. The activities included:

  • English: "Spies Like Us" – Exploring the cunning and craft of literary spies.
  • History: "Could You Be a Spy?" – Unveiling the secrets of espionage throughout the ages.
  • Politics: "Finding the Mole" – The art of political intrigue and subterfuge.
  • Maths: "Murder in the Maths Department!" – Solving mysteries with mathematical precision.
  • Modern Foreign Languages (MFL): "Linguistics: Coding and Decoding" – The intricate world of language and cryptography.

With the children in spy training, parents had the opportunity to understand a bit more about Lancing life, hearing from Dr John Herbert, Deputy Head, Catherine Reeve, Foundation Director, and Lancing Parents Association (LPA) Chair, Roy Haworth.

Following the educational sessions, parents concluded the morning with a drinks reception at the Art Exhibition, where they admired the impressive works of our talented students.

The Spy School event not only provided a glimpse into the vibrant life at Lancing College but also fostered a sense of community among the new joiners and their families. We look forward to welcoming these budding spies to our College in 2025, as they embark on their own educational journeys.
