It's been a very busy start of term for our Music School; so far the music calendar has been jam-packed with lunchtime concerts, organ recitals, prep schools event days and celebrity performances, and will culminate in the Advent Concert at the end of November.
Many of our musicians have also been engaged in concerts and events outside the College:
Upper Sixth Formers Cecily M and Jon L attended the National Schools Symphony Orchestra's camp last summer. Jon reported back at the beginning of term: 'At the camp, held at Malvern College, we worked together for eight days, preparing Verdi's Requiem with advice from incredibly experienced professionals. Under the baton of Mr Dickins we performed Verdi'd piece in celebration of the 25th anniversary of NSSO at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The vibrant acoustics, combined with the vocal force and Verdi's brilliant writing, made it an unforgettable experience for all the musicians.'
Will S played with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for the final time this year. The conductor for the final course was internationally renowned conductor Mark Wigglesworth. The repertoire was Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto played by Nicola Benedetti. During this tour Will had the opportunity to meet and speak with Wynton Marsalis, one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of our times. The final concert of the UK tour was in the Royal Albert Hall, where Will played live on radio in the BBC proms and the next day televised on the BBC. The final concert was at The Konzerthaus in Berlin, which was also televised but this time in Germany.
Kinna W also played in the Late Night Prom (70) with the BBC Proms Youth Ensemble. She performed alongside Jonny Greenwood (bassist of Radiohead) and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
