Lancing Prep Hove and Lancing College are thrilled to join forces to partner with the Brighton Half Marathon in 2025. On 2 March, we will be supporting over 8,500 inspiring and brilliant runners throughout their 13.1-mile challenge.
Runners will pass Brighton Pavilion Pier, Hove’s colourful beach huts, the Royal Pavilion, and the British Airways i360. Stunning sea views will dominate over 95% of the course.
Participants and spectators will spot staff and pupils from Lancing Prep Hove and Lancing College along the half marathon route as they co-host a water station, keeping runners hydrated and encouraged. Those attending can also visit both schools in the Race Village. Runners and visitors are welcome to stop by the stand to learn more about Lancing Prep Hove, Lancing College, and the Lancing College community.
The Brighton Half Marathon will celebrate its 35th year in 2025. As one of the first major half marathons in the running calendar, the route is now one of the most popular races in the UK.
A small group of individuals started the race in the early 1990s, with money raised used to help fund the building of The Sussex Beacon, the local charity that organises the race. Over the past three decades, the race has grown significantly and is now one of the largest running events in the South East, as well as a key fundraising event for many other worthy charities and causes, including Pier Charity partners Macmillan and Alzheimer’s Society.
Five Lancing Prep Hove staff members will be running to raise funds for the school’s nominated 2025 charities. Whilst the Prep School children are too young to take part in the main event, many of them will participate in the junior race. Back at school, all pupils will enter into the spirit of the event with their own sponsored run on their school field ahead of race day.
Commenting on the Brighton Half Marathon, Lancing Prep Hove Headmistress Kirsty Keep says, ‘We’re very much looking forward to supporting the inspirational Brighton Half Marathon for the very first time and to building an ongoing relationship with this wonderful event, which has quite rightly become one of the most popular half marathons on the race calendar.'
There will be 20 Lancing College runners, including 11 pupils, taking part and raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Director of Sport for Lancing College Kelly Edwards says, ‘The College is so proud and delighted to be supporting the Brighton Half Marathon. This event holds special significance for our community, as many of our teachers will be running in memory of our dear friend, colleague, and coach, Pat Martyn-Smith, while raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Joining them is a dedicated team of 11 Sixth Form students, and together we aim to honour Pat’s legacy and support a cause that touches so many lives. Alongside our volunteers, this will be a day of community, remembrance, and giving back.’
