In addition to the recent offers received from Cambridge, we've celebrated a large number of outstanding offers for our students.
According to the QS World Rankings, the most internationally reputed metric of university reputations, in addition to Oxford (6th) and Cambridge (5th) in the global top ten, UCL (7th) and Imperial (8th) were, last year, Lancing’s two most popular final destinations for undergraduate study. In a world where UK universities vie with the US colleges, dominating the list of the best universities in the world, Lancing’s most popular universities tend to be the very best ones.
Below we give a flavour of some of the outstanding offers that have already been received:
Medicine is a field that demands, quite rightly, a complex range of interviews and screening tests as well as aptitude tests. We have 12 students applying for Medicine through UCAS this year, one of the College’s largest cohorts in recent years. Our aspiring doctors have been doing the rounds of medical school interviews; while we wait for further results we congratulate Lydia B, Mary B and Abdul R on receiving their first offers at Sheffield and Manchester.
Our aspiring nurses are, equally, a source of great pride to the college: Ella P has received an impressive unconditional offer, among a clean sweep of offers, for Nursing from the University of Birmingham, while Sarah G has been accepted for a nursing degree at Nottingham University.
Biomedical Sciences remains a particularly popular route into some excellent universities, allowing the prospect of studying on a three-year BSc track and then going on to either work toward a PhD with a mind to medical research or to progress to postgraduate medical training. Congratulations to Cheryn F who has received Biomedical and Life Sciences offers at King’s College, London and Durham University.
Biochemistry is also proving a popular choice with offers for John-Paul M from Imperial College and UCL, while one of our Heads of School, Punn Punn I, has offers from King’s College, UCL and Bristol.
Thom L, one of a crop of outstanding chemists from this year, has been made offers for two different Chemistry courses at Imperial College, among others.
Business, Economics and related disciplines remain another particularly popular field with a bidding war already in the offing for Matthew D, last year’s Head Boy, who currently has Exeter and Nottingham making early offers with others likely to follow. Sixth Former Amber Z has also received offers to study Economics from UCL, Warwick and Edinburgh.
Engineering is seeing another strong year of interest with our two Cambridge engineers a source of great pride but other fine achievements too from Eddie B receiving a plethora of offers including Exeter, Nottingham and Southampton. Another of this year’s prefects, Chris B is being tempted by outstanding Mechanical Engineering courses at Sheffield, Loughborough and Warwick.
Architecture remains a particular source of success with Alex E already having received an offer from Nottingham, while both Vesper W and Haoming Z have received offers from both Bath and Edinburgh, the latter ranked 23rd best university in the world.
