Medical Society Dinner - November 2016

Our Lancing Medical Society Dinner on Tuesday 29 November brought together an exceptional group of OLs, pupils, staff and parents to hear Oliver Fenton FRCS MBE, Field’s 1962–1967. Oliver is a world-renowned plastic surgeon, who has had a distinguished 40 year career, most of which have been as an aesthetic surgeon. His specialist NHS interest is in paediatric plastic surgery, especially cleft lip and palate and tissue expansion. For more than 25 years he has worked as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in the Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and has held numerous senior medical posts regionally and nationally, including Chairman of the Craniofacial Anomalies Register.

Since 1990, Oliver has been taking a self-funded team to a paediatric hospital in Romania and works with Romanian colleagues to perform reconstructive surgery on up to thirty children per visit. In the past four years, he has also been going out to a town in northwest India to perform operations on cleft lip and palate, but also congenital and severe burns deformities.

We were also delighted to have with us for the occasion Professor Sir Roy Calne, Second’s 1944–1947, one of Lancing’s most distinguished OLs and a pioneer in the field of transplant surgery.

We're pleased to be able to share a selection of photographs from the event HERE.

The Foundation Office runs a number of additional professional groups for OLs. These include:

  • Law
  • Insurance
  • Finance and Property
  • Medicine
  • Arts and Media
  • Land Management
  • Science, Technology and Engineering

The aim of the groups and events is for OLs to network with fellow OLs in their industry. The events also provide excellent opportunities for pupils to find out more about their preferred career choices and professional pathways. We are keen to support and broaden the networks and ensure that this valuable resource that is available to pupils for the rest of their lives.
