It was heartening to see such a large festive gathering at the OL Club Carol Service at Chelsea Old Church on Monday 12 December. It was especially pleasing as the combination of snow and train strikes did little to deter numbers and carolling voices. The OL choir were on fantastic form under the direction of Tom Stockwell (Gibbs' 2006–2008) and there were some magnificent solos. The choir deserve a big thank you and applause for coming together and producing such a sweet sound after only a very brief rehearsal: Shelly Bentley (Manor 1996–1998), Claire Bradder (Manor 2002–2007), Lucy Holloway, née Bryn Davies (Manor 1986–1988) , Edward Davis (Gibbs' 2004–2009), Poppy Ewence (Field's 2005–2010), Suzy Parker (2009–2011), Catherine Parker, Tania Parsons (Manor 1986–1988), Farah Rehman (Handford 1995–1997), Rosie Scott (Manor 2002–2007), Jake Sutherland-Rowe (Head's 2007–2010), James Ware (Gibbs' 1992–1997), Philip Womack (Sanderson's 1995–2000) and Darcey Wynter (Field's 2004–2009). Our grateful thanks also to Hilary Punnett, the organist for the evening and to Reverend Max Bayliss for hosting the service.
We were privileged to have some polished reading of lessons by Professor Michael Hughes (Olds 1950–1955), Rosie Scott, Michael Stark (Olds 1962–1966), Nigel Bennett (Olds 1972–1977), Paige Taylor (Handford 2015–2017), Dominic Oliver (Head Master) and in particular to Dr Andrew Betts (1990–2020) who stood in for Catherine Reeve (Foundation Director, Sanderson's 1976–1979) as she had lost her voice!
