On Thursday 9 May, Lancing College welcomed over 70 pupils from six neighbouring prep schools to our Annual Prep Schools' Orchestral Day.
The day began with refreshments in the Lancing College Chapel Memorial Cloister, followed by warm-ups and tune-ups. Pupils then enjoyed a full rehearsal in the spectacular setting of the Chapel.
During break times pupils played on the grass surrounding the Chapel and made new friends as they explored the Chapel’s Rose Garden. They were even able to sample the delights of the brand-new Fives Café.
After devouring their packed lunches in the Dining Room, pupils moved on to sectional rehearsals: Strings were led by Roland R. and Liz H., Wind rehearsals took place in the Crypt with Anne H. and Nat M., Olly P. accompanied the Brass players, and the Percussionists enjoyed the space of the main Chapel.
After a quick afternoon break of squash and doughnuts, kindly provided by our fantastic catering team, the pupils were ready for their big performance. Our very own Steve D. conducted the orchestra in a concert that included an extraordinary group improvisation.
We’d like to thank the pupils and staff from Lancing Prep Hove, Lancing Prep Worthing, Copthorne Prep, Holmewood House, Sompting Abbotts and Westbourne House for joining us with such enthusiasm and for putting on a stellar performance!
