Pupils excel at Cross Country Competitions

Lancing College pupils took part in the Cross Country fixture at Waterhall Brighton on 18 January. Our pupils acquitted themselves really well, even though for some of them this was the first outing at such a large scale meet. Every single runner showed great character in their race.

Well done to all participants: Joe C, Tom C, Mark M, Lara N, Theo S-F, Grace S, Max S, Fin S, Max W, and Jemima W.

Many congratulations also go to Fin S and Max W (pictured below), who represented Sussex at the South of England Cross Country Championship in December. The U15 Sussex team came 4th out of 14 counties.

Fin talked about the experience: "I started running in January last year, so having qualified for Sussex in under a year is a massive achievement for me. This was my first time running for Sussex and for me it didn’t matter where I came, the experience was what mattered for me. The event was at Lloyd park in Croydon and was a massive event in the U15 category; there were over 120 runners with 14 counties competing going as far north as Bedfordshire. I think I came to the middle back of the field but, as I said before, to me this didn’t matter. I hope to qualify again in the future as it is something that means a lot to me, and I will work and train as hard as I can to make that possible. The experience is one I will never forget."

Max added: "Running for Sussex was an incredible experience. This was the fifth time I have run for Sussex, but it still didn't take away the incredible feeling of running for the county. It was also nice to run with Fin who did very well to qualify for Sussex, especially when he only started running during lockdown. I finished the race 48th out of 120 and I am quite pleased with how it went."
