Sport Roundup - End of Advent Term 2021

Girls’ Hockey

This term has been hugely successful in terms of participation and results in specific age groups as well as individual successes. We have played over 80 hockey fixtures with 120 girls representing the school. The team of the season has certainly been our U14A team who have shown a lot of promise for the future and have gone from strength to strength after a very successful County Cup.

This year we have three junior girls (Lara C, Harriet B and Nerea K-M) who have progressed into the next round of the Sussex Hockey Academy. We wish them the best of luck in the new year.

Mr Carter would like to announce the Golden Stick Award, a new award for the player who has scored the most goals in one season. Alexia X has tallied nine goals in nine games. Amazingly, she has never played hockey before arriving at Lancing and has represented the U14B team this year being prolific in front of goal.

Storm Barra didn’t stop the Junior House Hockey competition in the last week of term. Handford and Sankey's came joint top of the competition, but Handford just won by one goal on countback.

Mr Carter would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the Upper Sixth girls who have represented our senior teams this year. The level of commitment and dedication shown has been fantastic. This leads nicely to end of season colours for our Sixth Form:

Half Colours are awarded to:

Milly B, Grace C, Charina G, Rebecca H, Issy H, Bea J, Shirin M, Sofia R, Nen R, Riva S, Poppy S, Alice S.

Full Colours are awarded to:

Grace B, Dottie C, Rebecca H, Rosie H, Verity L, Georgia M, Kitty P, Tallulah R, Indie S, Molly T, Tess W, Pia V-W.

Football Round-up

With just under 100 fixtures played, which has encompassed 15 teams and well over 200 boys and girls, football at Lancing has burst onto the scene following last season’s curtailment. A successful Advent Term for our 1st XI, has seen our the team victorious on many occasions. Having amassed 12 goals without reply in the opening two rounds of the ISFA Boodles Cup, they narrowly missed out on the last 16 after a narrow defeat to the holders at Millfield. With such a young squad, involving mostly Fifth and Lower Sixth Form players, this bodes extremely well for the future.

It has also been extremely pleasing to see our Senior 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th teams successful, particularly after Half Term. Impressive displays against Lingfield, Westminster and Tonbridge have continued to demonstrate progression and a high quality on the pitch. Our U16A team have been victorious in the opening three rounds of the ESFA and ISFA Cup. It was also great to see our Senior 1st XI girls victorious in their opening round of the ESFA national Cup, with an exceptional 2-1 victory over Cardinal Newman.

Additionally, in a busy term for the Junior teams, there have been competitive fixtures for the Third and Fourth Forms. It has been a pleasure to witness these teams back in match action, and there have been some clear improvements both on and off the pitch.

The winner of the Junior Boys House Football Cup is Head's House.

Basketball Round-Up

The Basketball team has performed excellently this term. With a relatively young and inexperienced team, they have excelled and pushed other teams right to the limit on many occasions. With a record of thee wins and three losses, it will be exciting to get back in the Sports Hall to train and prepare for the upcoming fixtures after Christmas. Having lost three games by a combination of seven points, we have a very strong chance of placing ourselves near the top of the table at the end of the season. Mr Sunderland would like to award Desmond T (a new addition this year) with Half Colours. He has been an excellent addition to the team. He is a great scoring threat, as well as a very intellectual defender.
