Sporting Highlights - 1 December 2023

After a well-deserved EXEAT, we have had a great start to this week and much to celebrate on the tail end of last week.

Football news
A busy couple of weeks saw the Juniors in action against Shoreham College and Claremont School. The U14As beat Shoreham College 4-0, dominating from the outset, playing good football and they could have won the game by more. A late goal saw the U15Bs lose a close match 3-2. However, our team of the week this week was our U15As who gave their best performance this year; after going behind they excelled to a 6-1 victory in the ESFA Small Schools Cup against Claremont. It was an outstanding team performance led by Alex G, Joseph C and Man of the Match Gethin W who scored four goals. Notable performances also from Jack R, Jude G and Patrick C who all stepped up to play in the U15 team.

The Seniors were also in action with matches against Hurst and Bedales. The 1st XI fought back from 1-0 and then 2-1 down, to win 3-2 with a goal in the dying minutes from Tom H. Mr Mole’s 2nd XI extended their unbeaten run to sic matches, with two goals from Matty B helping the team to a comfortable 4-1 victory.

In the midweek games, both the 1st XI boys and girls played in ISFA National Cup competitions. The girls excelled to a 4-2 victory over Westminster, with goals from Lara C and Grace S helping the team triumph. It was a fantastic start, in their first game of this year, with standout performances from Skye L and Lily T as well. The boys endured a tough match with Latymer Upper; having lost their previous five matches against Latymer, the 1st XI put in a tremendous performance and bounced back from a goal down, to win the match 2-1. An equalising penalty from Harry S after good work from Oscar E, and a late goal from Seb F who continues his fine scoring run, helped to secure victory and passage into the quarter finals for the second year running.

Team of the week: Sam L, Alex G, Joseph C, Flynn S, Matty B, Gethin W, Harry S, Lily T, Skye L, Lara C, Tise O.

Star of the week: Gethin W.

Hockey news
On Tuesday our U14A competed in the National south England finals day after finishing runners up in the Sussex County Finals earlier in the season.

City of London Freemans and Kent College were the opponents in the group stage of the National final. A tough group stage with the Lancing U14s producing some truly excellent hockey as they were victorious in their must-win match vs City of London earning them a spot in the semi-final.

The girls battled hard, but the semifinal was the end of a long journey that has seen Lancing Hockey in their first National Finals Day in recent memory.

Extremely proud of the team as they managed to finish within the top 4 schools in the South.

Congratulations to Karis O-N, Kaylee B, Esme Brady-Rogerson, Molly B, Lila D, Aggie M, Emilia M, Purdey M, Coco M (Capt), Lily S (Vice-Capt), Mollie T, Florence C, Bibi W (Vice-Capt), Gabby Oi-N, Honor C and Sasha S.

In County hockey news, huge congratulations to Ava U and Amelia G who have successfully made the Sussex County squad, they have their first training session on this Sunday, and we await the news on more of our girl’s possible county selection later next week.

Cross-Country news
We wish Bibi W, Grace S, Luca C, Theo S-F and Max S the best of luck tomorrow compete in Round 3 of the Sussex Cross-Country league at Stanmer Park.
