Sporting Highlights - 13 May 2022

Polo
We start by congratulating Kaspar B and his polo team as they have made it through to the semi-finals of the Badminton Cup at Beaufort Polo Club last weekend. This is a tremendous achievement for Kaspar who is the youngest player in the team by some distance.

Girls' Football
We are also extremely proud of our U15 girls' football team who won their first match of the Summer Term with an excellent 3-1 win over Lingfield. Lancing led 1-0 at half time following a tremendous finish from Nerea K-M and some fine goalkeeping from Player of the Match Emma S. Two goals from Lara C in the second half sealed the points for Lancing.

Tennis
On Saturday, the Junior and Senior tennis girls hosted Christ’s Hospital on our magnificent grass courts. The 1st team won 6 out of their 9 matches, taking the overall win.

The Junior girls also had a terrific set of results on Saturday, winning 13 out of 15 matches in their first block fixture of the season. Saturday's successes continued as the Senior boys' 1st and 2nd teams travelled away to Christ’s Hospital. The boys finished victorious, winning eleven out of the twelve matches, and only dropping 3 sets.

Both the Senior boys and Senior girls obtained solid wins over Worth at home on Tuesday, with the U14 and U15 Junior boys gaining wins over Bede’s in their LTA Youth Schools Tournament.

Cricket
To start a great week of cricket, the
U14A team took the win in the Holdsworth Cup against Christ's Hospital on Friday 6 May. Lancing kept the opposition to 72 for 7 within the 100 balls. Lancing chased the runs down in 35 balls with Hamish K top scoring with 36 not out.

On Saturday, the cricket teams played against Charterhouse. The 1st XI lost the toss, were put into bat first and were bowled out for 94 on a difficult wicket. Our bowlers were outstanding with Thomas B taking 2 wickets and George B taking 4, limiting Charterhouse to score a total of 80 to give Lancing the overall victory.

The U15 XI also secured a great win with Max W scoring 42 and Finn S taking 4 wickets.

Our Senior girls' cricketers travelled to Charterhouse for their first game of the season in a pairs format. Batting first, the opening pair of Myf S and Julie K maneuvered the ball nicely and got Lancing off to a solid start, before Tallulah R and Kitty C-H picked up the pace with some smart running between the wickets, captain Rebecca H top-scoring as Lancing finished with 246. Unfortunately, a late flurry of hitting meant that Charterhouse won the game.
