Sporting Highlights - 14 February 2020

Swimming
We start by congratulating our Junior Boys' Swimming team who are currently half way through the Sussex County Swimming Championships and sitting in first place at this stage. This makes us third overall in the Boys' Age Group Championships!

George C is Junior Champion in 800m, 1500m and 200m freestyle, and 400m Individual Medley, and second in 200m Individual medley and 100m Fly.

James R is Junior Champion in 200m Individual Medley and 100m Fly, and second in 200m freestyle. Both George and James picked up gold and silver medals in almost all their individual age group events for U15 age group. Archie N came 3rd in the 100m Fly and 4th in the 200m Individual Medley.

The girls are also performing well, with Rania K securing two golds, two silvers and a bronze medal. She also got a silver in the Under 15 Junior Championships for 100m freestyle and a gold in the Under 15 Junior Championships for the 50m freestyle, setting a new county record at 28.11 seconds.

Grace S picked up bronze in the 1500m, 4th in the 200m backstroke, 200m fly and 800m freestyle.

In the last event of the day, George, James and Archie swam in the final of the boys 100m fly Championships and finished in spectacular style with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Lancing! These are amazing performances from our swimmers and we look forward to hearing how they are getting on further on in the competition.

Badminton
Our Badminton team continued with their winning ways defeating Ardingly last Saturday 11 to 4. The team is now preparing for the next fixture against Brighton College after Half Term.

Hockey
Last Saturday we had seven hockey teams – a total of 80 players – representing Lancing College against Ardingly. Highlights from the block came from the U15A and B teams who both won their matches 1-0. Special mention to Rocco G, who made a crucial save in the final seconds of the game, and also to the U15B captain Kiran P who controlled the game brilliantly with his dazzling skills.

Netball
What a week it has been for the Netball Club! On Saturday we witnessed a nail-biting match between our 1st team and Christ’s Hospital. Strategic play and incredible defence saw Lancing pinch the win 19-15, with MVP going to Rosie H and Flora D. A valiant display from our tremendous 2nd team, ended up with Christ’s Hospital just edging the win, with Katie T MVP. The Thirds battled through all four quarters with a very strong and physical Christ’s Hospital team but they held their nerve and took the win with an impressive 28-12. MVP was awarded to Lilah A.

The closest match of the afternoon, and just nipped at the post, was a very unlucky U16A which lost out 9-12. MVP was awarded to Georgia M.

Our Juniors had success away at Eastbourne with the mighty U14Bs wining 9-8. Annabelle J was awarded MVP. Praise also goes to the U15As for holding Eastbourne to a 11-11 draw, with MVP going to Bea J.

On a blustery yet sunny afternoon, Tuesday was the highlight of the term thus far for our Juniors, with the U15As, U15Bs and U15Cs all victorious over Moira House 17-8, 12-1 and 7-6 respectively.
Mimi C, Natalie M and Hattie W were all deserved winners of the MVP award. Our U14Bs and Cs both beat Lewes Old Grammar with MVPs awarded to Connie W and Sonichka K.

Finally, in recognition of their current progress in the 1st team, Rosie H, Flora D, Pomme J and Jojo W have all been awarded interim half colours in the Head Master's Assembly this week.

Basketball
It was another win for our Basketball team on Tuesday against Bede's School. They were slow to start but gained momentum throughout the match and finally won 66-31; top scorer was Michael M with 31 points, which is a record this season. The week after Half Term they take on Eastbourne away for their final match of the season, with hopes of finishing second in the league.

Football
We didn’t award the boys' football colours at the end of last term because they still had matches to play. It is also fitting that we concluded this week's Head Master's Assembly by inviting Mr Crowe – our former Director of Sport and Head of Football, who leaves the College today – up to shake hands with the following players who have gained colours for the skill and dedication they have shown throughout this season.

Half colours are awarded to: Harvey K, John M, David C, Freddie V B, Fabian S, Will S, Isaac A, Barney H, Nicolo B, Jake B and Ben D.

Full colours are awarded to: Barney J-D, Ollie D, Owen C and Bader J.
