We are delighted to announce that Thomas C-F has been selected for arguably the most prestigious team in the U19 shooting world – the British Cadet Rifle team – also known as the Athelings.
Our cadets have enjoyed a number of high-profile successes in the past few years but this in the first Lancing student to become an Atheling since 1978!
This news follows on from OL and Gibbs' boy Rex Barrington’s success in being selected Captain of the adult Rifle team in 2020.
The Shooting Team continues to go from strength to strength and 2020 has got off to a roaring start.
We are also proud to announce that Sam W has won Silver in the Sussex County Under 14 Epee Competition over the Christmas period (losing only one fight in the final) and will now go forward to the Regional Competition later in the term.
We had a very successful first League Run of the term with nearly 200 runners completing the course. First finishers were Joe F in the Boys’ Race and Madeleine P in the Girls' Race.
The runners then had to take on a very tough course at Sevenoaks the very next day.
Madeleine P was again our first finisher, and she was well backed up by Olesia G, Talia W, Katie T and Alex W. In the Boys’ Race, first in for Lancing was Joe F, closely followed by Ralph H, Raphael K and Mack McD. This is a terrific effort from all these pupils in such a long and demanding race and really promises great things for the future.
Continuing with Cross-Country a small and elite group of runners took part in the Sussex Cross Country championships in Brighton on Tuesday. First in for the Junior Boys’ Race was Ralph H, with an excellent position of 36th in a large high-quality field. Our first finisher in the Intermediate Boys’ Race was Raphael K who was 28th – another excellent run.
Last Saturday Lancing College had five hockey teams playing Portsmouth Grammar School as a pre-season block. Considering Portsmouth play two terms of hockey, all teams competed well and showed promise for the season ahead. The biggest highlight of the weekend was the 2nd team, who were winning 1-0 at half time, creating plenty of chances thanks to some outstanding creativity from Frederick V B down the right hand side. Unfortunately, Portsmouth recruited a few more senior players at half time which led to the 2nd team losing 2-1. Although the boys were gutted about the result, it was a promising performance.
Last Saturday Nicolo B and Marvin Y represented LOBFC against The Old Brentwoodians. Despite the 2-1 loss for the Old Boys, both players were voted as joint men of the match with Marvin scoring the Lancing goal.
This weekend we look forward to the first matches of the Lent Term when the Junior and Senior teams take on Gordon's School.
The weather hasn’t made training easy for the netballers this term but the girls have persevered and enjoyed their pre-season matches against Hurst on Thursday. The highlights were from the 1st and U16A team who both had close matches, only just losing out in the final quarter. Good luck to all teams playing against Worth this weekend.
