Sporting Highlights - 17 June 2022

The Equestrian Team was in action last weekend at Felbridge, jumping in the NSEA Regional Qualifier. The team jumped well at both 80 and 90cm, with Ralf B storming to individual victory at 80cm (out of 94 entries). He now qualifies for the NSEA National Show Jumping Finals at Kelso in October. Well done to the team.

On Tuesday the Junior boys' and girls' Tennis Team travelled to Bede’s to compete in the Sussex Cup Tournament. The girls took on a tough Bede’s and Brighton College opposition early on, losing out in the first two rounds but fighting back to take a respectable third place by beating Bede’s B in the playoff. The boys won their box, beating Bede’s B and C teams and a tough Cardinal Newman, where they then progressed to the semi-finals, unfortunately losing out to Bede’s A team on point difference. MVPs are jointly awarded to Austin J and Lucas B for their exceptional performance.

On Saturday our Senior girls' Football Team took to the pitch for the final time this year for the Ardingly six-a-side tournament. Despite opening the scoring in their first two matches, Lancing finished the tournament in fifth place, having drawn three matches, lost two, and only conceding 4 goals in the whole tournament. This was a terrific improvement from last year's showing.

On Tuesday the girls took part in the first ever Girls' House Football Tournament. It was a fantastic advert for girls' football at Lancing, with eight teams taking part and some incredible football on display. Congratulations to Sankey’s U15 team who won the tournament, and commiserations to Field’s in second place.

The Cricket Club had a great set of fixtures last Saturday. The 1st XI elected to bowl first against Christ's Hospital, dismissing them for 105, with Omar M A taking 7 wickets for 12 runs. In reply Lancing raced to the total in 13.2 overs, only losing 2 wickets. A sublime 63 from Jamie C and valuable contributions from Ethan F (12) and Ozzy R (14). A Fantastic 8 wicket victory!

The 15As played King's Rochester on Saturday and restricted them to 109, with Harry B really finding his form, ably supported by Hamish K and Cal N. We chased down the runs with a masterful 40 from Oscar E and a cavalier 28-not-out by Max W to seal the deal. A great win by 7 wickets.

The Junior girls finished their season strongly on Saturday, recording a third win from four games. Fielding first against King’s Rochester, Lancing took 5 wickets on their way to restricting the opposition to 239 off 16 overs. Lara N (3 wickets for 5 runs) and Harriet B (1 wicket for 2 runs) were the standout performers with the ball. In bat, special mention must go to Emma S and Grace S who scored a 25-run partnership helping Lancing to a 21 run victory. This team have a very bright future ahead.
