We start by congratulating Kitty P who was invited to play for the Sussex U20 badminton squad last weekend. This is a superb achievement for Kitty, who was playing with and against girls a lot older than herself. The Sussex team eventually beat Gloucester and drew with Avon, so lots to celebrate and we look forward to following her progress through the winter.
Last weekend 12 Lancing teams took on Winchester. The highlights of the block were an excellent 1-0 win for the 2nd XI where Louis J-Q grabbed the winner. The U14A team played impressively to win 2-0 in the Southern League. Goals here came from George C and Harry S. The U14C team continues to entertain the crowds, winning 6-4 away from home. Amongst the scorers were Marnix H (3) and Frankie P with a rasper from the half way line!
On Tuesday the 2nd XI, U15B and U14B teams took on the Duke of Kent School. The 2nd XI made it two wins on the spin with a 6-1 victory. The U14Bs lost 5-3, but the U15B team won 10-0!
On Thursday the 2nd XI made the short trip to Shoreham Academy in the Sussex 2nd XI Cup. The team was fantastic from start to finish and ran out 4-1 winners. Goals were scored by Jacob C, Raphael K and two from MVP Louis J-Q. They now face Bishop Luffa at home in the round of 16.
At this point in the term we reward the progress of one of our 1st team Upper Sixth players with the award of interim half colours. Congratulations to Ollie D!
Spurred on by the success of the Boys' tennis team last week, the U18 Girls took on Hurst on Thursday in their first group stage match in the LTA Tournament. Despite the rather blustery conditions, the girls got off to a terrific start, with Olesia G winning her singles match 6-0, Emily S and Flora D winning their doubles 6-0, and Alicia H taking the win 6-1. After two tough losses for Yana M and Emily S in their singles matches, it all came down to the remaining doubles match in which Yana and Olesia secured a solid 6-0 win, resulting in Lancing taking the overall win 8-4. Well done girls, great start to the season!
The hockey block against Hurst last weekend was a tough one. The notable highlights were from the ever-improving 2nds and 3rds. Both teams battled hard and were unlucky to lose out by a single goal.
Determined to put things right the 3rds made the journey to play Charterhouse on Tuesday. The game was slow to get going but Lancing managed to score in both halves to secure the victory. Goals came from Sofia R and Emma P, both competing for top goal scorer. On the same day the U15s finally broke their losing streak and notched up a well-deserved 4-1 home win against Charterhouse (goal scorers Bea J (2), Poppy S and Isobel A).
Finally, in recognition of their current progress in the Hockey 1st team, JoJo W, Pomme J, Emily P and Jade B have been awarded interim half colours.
