Hockey
The hockey club took on Lingfield at the weekend. For the 1st XI, the game started positively with Lancing enjoying most of the possession and creating excellent chances early on. The first of two goals came from Bradley H, the second goal from Fintan H. The 1st XI then managed to hold off Lingfield, withstanding the pressure for the second half, and ending the match 2-0 to Lancing. Most Valuable Player was awarded to Bradley H.
For the 2nd XI, a brace of goals for Teddy B made for a commanding first half, with the finishing touches by Brook L and Zach A-J. Most Valuable Player Cal N played a leading role in midfield, ably supported by Zach A-J, resulting in a 4-1 win for Lancing.
The 15A's match could have gone either way as the teams were very well matched. Unfortunately Lingfield found the goal late on in the second half, and the scoreline remained 1-0 to Lingfield. Most Valuable Player was awarded to Fintan H, in what was his second match of the afternoon.
Another very strong start from the U15Bs saw them come very close to scoring the opener. However, the Lingfield goalkeeper made some excellent saves and we were unlucky not to score a winner. The game finished 0-0. Most valuable Player was awarded to Harrison McD.
The 14As put up a good fight, with Bryn H leading from the front. Despite the loss, the season ahead looks very promising for this group. Alex McG (Goal Keeper) and Bryn H both awarded player of the match.
Netball
A great start to the season for our netball club this week as our Juniors took on Bede's and Steyning Grammar School.
The U14A and U15A teams travelled to Bede's on Tuesday with the U14s having the luxury of playing inside in the warm, whilst the 15As battled the -1C chill outside. Both games were well contested, with the U14s winning 26-14. Most Valuable Players were Nadiya L and Ava U.
Unfortunately, the 15As were narrowly defeated, with Most Valuable Players awarded to Hattie P and Ava S.
In our home matches against Steyning Grammar School, the U15Bs, U14Bs and Cs all played valiantly despite the sub-zero temperatures and the matches being pushed back to 4pm.
It was a tough opening round of fixtures with the U15Bs and U14Bs sadly losing their games; Most Valuable Players were Piper S and Polly E.
The U14Cs were victorious 9-5, with Most Valuable Player awarded to Evie M.
Cross-Country
Mr Brookes writes: 'We are blessed with some terrific runners at Lancing at the moment, and the best intermediate girls’ and boys’ teams for decades made their way to Brighton on Tuesday for the Sussex Schools Cross-Country Championships. This is a very high-quality event with a legendary "stinker" hill.
In the Girls' race we had some really encouraging runs from Grace S (48th), Lara N (54th), and Grace H (56th) who was making her debut for the team.
In the Boys' race Fin S came 3rd, with Max W 10th, Max S 32nd and Theo S F 35th. These are terrific performances all round.
Fin led the race right up to the very last and was only just beaten in the final metres. It is the first-ever individual medal won by a Lancing pupil at this event – we have been going every year since the early 1980s!
All those who took part have trained really hard outside of school, putting in the miles. Some of them were at the course on Sunday to practice on their own. Running requires real dedication and commitment and it was a privilege to be there with them on Tuesday.'
And finally, to our Basketball team who continue their undefeated stretch, beating a strong Brighton College team on Tuesday afternoon. The match finished 51-37.
This takes the basketball team to a solid record of 7 wins and 0 defeats.
