Sporting Highlights - 20 November 2020

We had another successful sports afternoon last Saturday with record numbers of students taking part.

Hockey
The Third and Fourth Forms played their first inter-year 11-a-side hockey match. The level of hockey being played was highly competitive with several skills being used from training sessions, which is always very pleasing to see!

Tennis
Following on from the success of last week’s Junior Manor Cup, on Saturday it was the Senior boys' and girls' turn.

Not only was this the biggest Senior Manor Cup tournament to date, with over 50 Fifth Form, Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth Form students participating, but the competition for fancy dress was exceptional. Saturday saw everything from Mickey & Mini Mouse, Winnie the Pooh & Tigger, Men in Black, two lots of Hawaiian couples, two heavily pregnant ladies, a Mexican and human Tequila bottle, a Fisherman and her Shark, Superman and Slough-woman, 80s-inspired fitness instructors, as well as many, many more fabulous outfits!

After much debate we have decided to award three prizes this year for Fancy Dress:

In third place: Marcus W and Grace B (Winnie the Pooh and Tigger)

Second place: Emma P and Alice S (Fisherman and her Shark)

And our unanimous first place winners, dressed as ‘The Princess and the Frog’ goes to Charlie L and Tara B.

The award for ‘Best Pair’ goes to Pia Von W and Ben M-S.

Having won their round robin boxes, quarter-final and semi-final matches, the grand final came down to Upper Sixth Formers Alicia H & Matteo T-B against Fifth Formers Isabella H & Oliver M. Some great tennis played by all, but clinching the win by 2 points, and taking home the Senior Manor Cup this year are Isabella and Ollie.

Football
The weather has turned. The resolve of the players is now being put to the test.  But this has not stopped the momentum of the competition building with the inclusion of a girls' demo fixture too. Building on the first-round total of 151 players taking the field, this week 155 students ‘laced up their boots’ including two players who have never played football before!

U18: No Cap Utd responded to their round 1 defeat, with a 3-1 win.
Men of the Match: Charlie G (2 goals) and Akos S.

U17: Say Nada FC gave an overwhelming display of striking power for the second week running, with an 8-2 bull-dozing.
Men of the Match: Will C and Isaac I (hat-trick).

U16: A good competitive game with clever tactics from No Cap Utd, securing a 3-0 win including a ‘special teams’ penalty from Ethan F.
Men of the Match: Ethan F + Kwame N-O.

U15: No Cap Utd dominating the play including four goals from George C, running out 8-3 victors.
Men of the Match: Matty B and Will P.

U14: Fixture cancelled once again due to Covid quarantine with remaining students playing a second practice match. Their first full fixture will be after the Exeat weekend.

This means that No Cap Utd have usurped Say Nada FC’s early lead and head into the halfway break 73 points ahead.
