Sport Highlights

It's been another fantastic week of sport for Lancing College across an array of disciplines.

Tennis
The Tennis Club welcomed Bede’s for a pre-season friendly fixture on Tuesday earlier this week. With our 1st team comprising boys and girls from Third Form to Upper Sixth, and several county players competing from both schools, it was a high-quality afternoon of tennis, allowing our students a great opportunity for additional match practice. Highlights include individual performances from Amelia P, Julian N and George H, all of whom made good progress with their set goals, combined with successful wins from Logan B, Coco M and Costanza D to name a few. This was a promising start to the year ahead. Overall coaches’ player (MVP) is awarded to Amelia P.

Cross-Country
The first race of the Sussex Winter Cross Country League took place last Saturday at Goodwood. Fin S came 4th in the U17s men’s race with an incredible time of 16:40, Max W was 8th with 16:58. Congratulations also go to Max S with a time of 18:04 in the 3-mile race.

In the U15s girls 2.5mile race, Bibi W finished 4th with a fantastic time of 15:57 and Anna B also ran her first competitive cross-country race.
Grace S also represented in the U17 women’s race.

Exciting news is that Sussex have said that they are looking at the top 8 athletes from this race, and the next race on 11 November, for athletes to compete at the South of England Inter counties. Fin and Bibi look set to compete and hopefully Max too. Good luck!

Football
Saturday saw a difficult 10 game fixture block with close rivals Bede's. Our 1st XI recovered from a goal down, to go 2-1 up in the second half following a brace from Seb F, only to concede late on to draw 2-2. Our team of the day was the 2nd XI who scored late on to beat Bede's 2-1, with goals from Oscar R and Theo S-F and a man of the match performance from Ian L, making his 2nd team debut. This secured their third win in a row. Unfortunately, our 3rd and 5th teams lost their unbeaten runs going down by a single goal in both matches. However, our Junior performance of the day went to our U14Bs who were moments away from victory before conceding in the final minutes to draw 2-2.

Football Team of the week:
Goalkeeper: Ian L
Defenders: Ben A, Paddy J, Tom H, Theo S-F, Cyrus D
Midfielders: Magnus D, Marshall D, Jacob T

Swimming
Lancing swimmers were in action in two separate League competitions this week. Kicking off with Round 1 of the National Arena League in Dover with Alessio M, Bianca S-A, Grace W ,Logan B and Isaac B all competing to help Lancing finish a credible 5th place against very tough opposition.

Senior and Prep swimmers were in action again in Round 2 of the Schools Super Swimming League on Tuesday at home pulling off a convincing win against Downlands and Seaford College. Bianca S-A, Bella B, Bethany K, Isaac B and captains Alessio M and Jorja S all won their races and we finished 50 points clear of all opposition. Thanks to all those who gave up time to help run the gala and Imogen and Hadley for their first official team outing. Well done to all those taking part with Lancing well placed to compete in the final two rounds over next few months.

Hockey
The Hockey Club welcomed Roedean last Saturday for a full block fixture.

The 1st XI took an early lead with a well-worked goal scored by Harriett B before Roedean managed an equaliser just before half time.

A closely fought game continued which could have gone either way, but it was to be Lancing’s afternoon, with the winning goal from Kitty H. The game ended 2-1 to Lancing, with MVPs Harriett B, Kitty H and Anna I.

The 2nd XI travelled away to Roedean and matched the 1st XI score, Lancing 2-1 winners. Goals from our two MVP’s Darcy H and Sienna R who continues her goal scoring streak.

U15A - Despite the squad not being at full strength at the weekend, our U15A produced a very confident performance, they finished 0-0. MVP’s Amelia G and Grace H.

U15B - put up a really good fight and finished the with a nail biting 2-2 draw. Miss Whitelam and Miss Willetts report that it was the best hockey they’ve played all season. Both goals were scored by Daisy D-P. MVPs were Anika M and Hattie S.

U14A - Loss 3-1. The girls came up against a very strong Roedean team, but worked extremely hard to stay in the game. Roedean scored first but Molly B kept us in it equalising with a sweet reply. In the second half Lancing worked hard, but Roedean managed to score twice more with the game ending 3-1.

Fantastic work from our honourable mentions Coco M and Lili Ss with our MVP going to our relatively new goalkeeper Karis O-N, who made numerous quality saves throughout the match.

U14B - A good effort at home for our U14Bs who were gave a great account of themselves despite the 0-2 final score. MVPs Florence C, Imari D and Phoebe H.
