Sporting Highlights - 21 June 2019

In the academic year's final ‘normal’ week for Lancing Sport, there have been some outstanding achievements.

Mr Crowe would like to first congratulate the girls that have been so dedicated to football training over the course of the term. They have improved excellently and we hope that numbers will continue to grow along with a competitive fixture list next year.

The home matches against King's Rochester did not make it to an end due to rain, but an excellent 48 from Ben M-S in the U15A game was a highlight. The senior girls made the long journey to Kent and came away with a resounding win by 10 wickets.

On Thursday, the 1st XI took on the All-Rounder Academy from Cape Town. Pick of the bowlers was Alice C who took 3-14 from her four overs.

The Junior House finals took place on Tuesday, and in the plate final the runner-up was Head's House and the winner was Second's.
In the main final School House defeated Teme House to take the title.

With the last of the Saturday fixtures taking place tomorrow against Worth, the U15A and U14A teams have the chance to take the best win ratio over the season.

The Tennis season was capped off in fine style on Tuesday, with an imperious performance by the U15 boys and girls. At Bede's, the team proved to be dominant again with the U15A girls finishing as runners-up in the County Shield. This was by the narrowest of margins, as only one point separated first and second places. The boys won all their games to win the tournament outright and also scoop the fair play award.

This year group has had an outstanding season and the team will finish with 100% and 71% win ratios.

The trophy cabinet started to burst on Saturday at the finals of the Sussex Independent Schools Diamond League.
This was the culmination of a term of heats, competitions and training and Lancing has never performed better than in 2019.
The whole day was live streamed and it is definitely worth a watch if you want to see Lancing's athletes in action:

Medals were presented at the event and were won by:

Henry H: Gold in the 200m

Cyril L: Silver in the Long Jump and Gold in the High Jump

Joe F: Gold in the High Jump and Gold in the 1500m

Yumi Luisa M: Bronze in the Javelin and 100m

Favour N: Bronze in the Shot

Nana O N: Silver in the 300m

Bupi M: Silver in the 100m

Vlad E-P: Bronze High Jump

Well done to ALL of the athletes that have trained this term. Everyone has really worked hard to improve and Miss Andrew looks forward to bigger and better next season.
