Sporting Highlights - 21 May 2021

Athletics
Unfortunately, rain stopped play for most of our sport teams last Saturday, but 32 hardy athletes made the journey to K2 Crawley to take part in the second round of the Diamond League. Lots to celebrate from the Lancing participants, including: first place in the 100m in a time of 11.60 from Nana O-N; Alice S jumped 1.40m to come third in the Senior Girls’ high jump; Joe F placed third in shot putt and high jump; Flynn S came second in the long jump; and Miles McN just beat Kwame N on the line in the 100m.

Cricket
The Lancing U15A Cricket Team had their first game as a unit on Tuesday and it ended in a tense victory over Ardingly in the Blackshaw Bowl. Four wickets for George C, three for George B, and some effective fielding saw Ardingly restricted to 94-9 in their 20 overs. Ardingly’s bowlers kept it tight, but 32 from Cosmo P went a long way to securing a good victory.

Tennis
On Monday, the U15 girls played their debut match against Worth School. The girls did really well but unfortunately on this occasion were up against a tougher opposition. MVPs are awarded to Charlotte Y and Clara M for their positive and determined attitude throughout, and for taking Worth’s top pair to a final set tie break. The U15 boys continued their winning streak, gaining a confident 6-2 win against Worth.
