Sporting Highlights - 24 January 2020

The climbing team went out for the third instalment of the Winter Bouldering Competition last week. In spite of the challenge of many impracticable boulder problems, the strength, skill, and willpower of our climbers led to high scores all around. Anatolii S, Daniel S, and Laurenz L managed to assemble high scores of 131, 157 and 164, which places them high in regional rankings. Well done to all the climbers for an outstanding effort.

Last Thursday the basketball team hosted Worth in a must-win match and it was worth it! The boys produced a great performance and won 53-51. Top scorers were Ben D and Marvin Y with 15 points and Michael M with 12 points, while Henry C and Bader J were also instrumental in securing three points each.

The Lent Juniors achieved a resounding victory on Saturday over Gordon’s School. Although the match was played in poor conditions, Lancing pulled through and won the game 6-2. Braces from Adam M and Kwame N-O as well as goals from Josh R and Timo A gave the team an impressive victory in their first match together.

A fantastic start to the season for the U14B netball team last Saturday, with a dominating 18-11 win over Worth. Our girls took the lead from the start, with accurate shooting from Annabelle J and Iyana P. MVP went to Emilia S-F for her consistent effort on the court and quick decision making.

Another highlight from the block came from the 15As who drew their match 24-24. Tight marking from Mimi C and Zoe C made it difficult for the opposition to gain much space. A really positive performance by all and promising start to the season ahead.

On Thursday the Senior teams travelled to Ardingly and came away with two wins and a narrow loss. A slow start for the Lancing 1st VII meant we were down 8-5 in the first quarter; a reshuffle and a switch of Abi H to defence and Pomme J into shoot seemed to make the difference. Lancing finally won the game 30-20 which is a fantastic result.

Determined to build on their win against Worth last week the 16As played in a tight fixture against Ardingly. The game could have gone either way but the shooting accuracy of Georgia M kept us on top and the final score was 16-13 to Lancing.
