Sporting Highlights - 26 November 2021

Congratulations to Isabella H who has been selected to play for the Sussex Ladies’ Tennis team in December. We wish her luck.

Hockey
Olympic Gold medallist Michael Phelps said ‘it’s not how you start, but it’s how you finish’ This has certainly been the case for Lancing College Hockey, who had a very successful weekend against Brighton College winning the block 4-2.

The Saturday started well with the U14A team winning 1-0, which was then followed by wins from the U14B (1-0) and 2nd XI (3-1). Unfortunately, the 3rd XI and U15B couldn’t continue the winning streak with 2-0 losses. However, Mr Carter’s Team of the Week goes to the U15As, who closed the day with a hard fought 1-0 win. The U15A team epitomise grit and determination after having a tough start to the seasons but have shown lots of positive signs for the future.

Football

A busy week of Seniors' football saw two home and four away matches versus Tonbridge School. It was an extremely competitive afternoon with two wins, two draws and two losses for both schools, in what was a very evenly matched fixture block. Despite disappointment for the 1st team, who conceded and missed a penalty late on to lose 2-1, it was excellent to see our 2nd and 3rd teams extend their unbeaten runs to 3 games. Also, a fantastic performance from start to finish, allowed our 5th team to run out 2-0 winners after a brace from Max W.

Honourable mentions to Ozzy R, Will C, Oliver F and Brook L who donned goalkeeping gloves for the first time, demonstrating self-sacrifice and a fantastic team work ethic, during a week in which we faced a massive goalkeeping crisis.

Team of the Week – 5th XI. Star Player – Max W.

Basketball
The Lancing College Basketball Team lost a nail-biting overtime game away to Claremont school on Thursday night by 2 points. Although we were on the back foot for the majority of the game, a late surge brought us back which then forced the game into an overtime period. Both teams struggled to score, and some good defensive work from Claremont in the dying seconds helped them seal the victory. Still, a great effort from all the lads.

Badminton
Finally, our Badminton Team was in action on Tuesday against Brighton College. This was a fabulous fixture with the squad of eight playing a mix of singles, mixed doubles, and fun timed games. We just lost out at the end losing 3-2 but look forward to the rematch in the New Year.
