Sporting Highlights - 31 January 2020

The U14 Team performed as well as they possibly could on Wednesday in the Nationals competition down in Somerset. After losing out to a competitive Truro side, the team faced Perins School in the second match. Wins from Alex M (in his first ever squash game), Henry G and Sam P saw us take a 3-2 victory. In the final match we were undone by one of the favourites for the National tournament, losing out to the strong Millfield team.

An exciting day for our rugby players on Thursday as 27 boys travelled to Cardinal Newman to play against their 2nd XV in a wet and muddy encounter. Captain Harry A led from the front throughout and Olly H was a brilliant flanker making some big hits and covering tackles. MVP went to Freddie M for outstanding effort, attitude and tackling. We look forward to the Rugby 7s tournament at Lancing on 13 February.

Games rarely go into extra time in basketball but that is exactly what happened last Thursday when Lancing visited Ardingly. In a physical game against tough opponents, the Lancing boys demonstrated superb defensive skill, tying the game at 33:33 at the end of the fourth period. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side in the two minutes of extra time and Ardingly won 39:33. Highest scorer – and MVP of the game – was captain Michael M with 22 points in the basket, supported by Michael T with 7 points on target. We host Michael Hall in our next game at home.

Good luck to our netballers playing Hurstpierpoint and the hockey teams taking on Seaford this coming weekend.
