Sporting Highlights - 6 May 2022

Football
The Lancing Senior girls came out with an unfortunate 3-1 defeat by Bedales. Lancing went 2-0 down in the first half before an excellent solo goal from Mathilde T. In the second half things did improve but a late third for Bedales took the game out of our reach. Honourable mentions to Aimee C and Tess W for their defensive and goalkeeping efforts respectively.

Tennis
Last Thursday the U16 boys retained their title at the Sussex Shield tournament. Having got off to a rocky start against Cardinal Newman in the first round, the boys had to dig deep for the remainder of their group matches, where they eventually qualified to the knockout stages. Wins against Brighton College in the quarter-final and Bede’s in the semi-final meant the boys faced recent rivals Eastbourne College in the long-awaited final. With George and Logan narrowly losing their doubles, and Jayden and Henry winning their doubles, the final result came down to points difference. As if the final couldn’t be any closer, with both teams drawing on point difference, the schools put forward two players to compete in a 10 point shoot-out. Brave tennis from George H and Jayden H saw Lancing walk away victorious and keepers of the U16 Sussex Shield.
