It has been a varied week of sport for the College, with league, cup and friendly fixtures being on the menu for the Football and Hockey Clubs.
The U14A hockey team produced an excellent performance to win at home against Worth. After a goalless first half, the team played very well to score three times in the second period without reply. Goals were scored by Rosie H (2) and Ruth B.
In the same block of matches, both the 1st and 2nd XI team suffered narrow 1-0 losses. Later in the week in the County Cup, the 1st team knew that a couple of good performances would result in qualification to the knockout stages. After beating Christ's Hospital and drawing with Mayfield, an agonising 1-0 loss against Brighton College saw the team miss out by one goal.
For the Football Club, the 3rd XI very nearly pulled off an excellent win over a physical Bede's team. Superb defensive work very nearly paid off as the team was edged out 2-1.
The 1st XI continues to show progression. A confident and competent 3-1 win over Corinthian Casuals was reward for a very good second half performance. Goals were scored by Luke H and another two for Demi A. Although Demi now has 11 goals in five games, MVP was Joe H.
On Tuesday the team then faced Bede's. Despite losing, the team scored three impressive goals, coming from Joe H (2) and Demi A. On Sunday Demi then represented the ISFA South Red team. This game should be noted, not only for being Demi's representative debut, but also for the strange fact that it was a game of football in which he didn't score! Instead, he proved to be just as important by creating the winning goal for his fellow striker in the 2-1 win over Kent.
Golf made a competitive comeback this week, with the 1st team taking on Brighton College in the Schools' Matchplay competition. All three games were close, with Jack C gaining a point in the 2-1 loss. The team now enters the plate, while the 2nd team will take on Ardingly next week.
