Sporting Highlights - Friday 16 October 2020

Last Saturday was a huge sporting success with over 150 students getting involved in the various House events. The ice cream van proved popular and was a welcome treat to all athletes and supporters. There was a real buzz.

Cross Country
Junior Girls' Inter-House Cross Country was a roaring success with 70 girls tackling the League Run course. Sankey's House, led by their Housemistress dressed as a witch, definitely won the fancy dress competition. Remarkably, Ava S managed to get round wearing a pea costume! Bethany K won the Third Form race, and Rania K took the Fourth Form race, but it was a team competition and points were awarded to the top two runners ...

The results were as follows:

Third Form Race
5th - Field's
4th - Saints'
3rd - Manor
2nd - Handford
1st - Sankey's

Fourth Form Race
5th - Saint's
4th - Handford
3rd - Manor
2nd - Sankey's
1st - Field's

Hockey
The girls have missed playing competitive hockey this term but enjoyed their inter year group matches last Saturday. The Upper Sixth started the day with a competitive 5-a-side game, and after a highly competitive 40 minutes, Hannah G’s team scored two late goals to win the match 7-5.

The Lower Sixth followed, competing in an Inter-Year 6-a-side tournament. There was lots of good hockey on show with some excellent performances from Rebecca H, Molly T, Kitty P and Emma P.  The Huskies won overall with two wins and a draw. A special mention must also go to the goalkeepers (Tess W and Marsel S) as well as Tallulah R for winning player of the tournament.

Senior Boys Inter House Tennis
It was great to see many house shirts being worn at the Senior Boys' Tennis Competition and lots of support from fellow students and staff. Some outstanding points played throughout the afternoon, and several very close, competitive matches won by only 1 point. This Senior Boys’ tournament was by far the closest to date, with only 4 points separating 3rd and 1st place. A massive congratulations to all who took part and represented their House, but the overall winners this year and taking home the Senior Boys' House Shield, winning 9 out of their 12 matches, are Second's House. Well done to George N, Felix U, Nikita P, Harry D, Ben D and Kwame N.

Junior Boys' 6-a-side House Cricket

The Junior 6-a-side tournament on the Astro was lots of fun for both players and supporters. Mr Maru was excited by the potential talent on show.

Congratulations to Head's for winning, they played well throughout the afternoon in all three games.

1st Place with 31 points - Head's

2nd Place with 27 points - Teme

3rd Place with 21 points - School

4th Place with 11 points - Gibbs'

5th Place with 5 points - Second's

Thank you to everyone who has taken part this term in House sport. The sporting community is really vibrant and promises to be even more exciting after Half Term with the introduction of Fantasy League Football Matches, the Tennis Manor Cup and more Hockey Sixes.
