Sporting Highlights – Friday 7 March 2025.

Football
An excellent weekend of football saw Lancing unbeaten in four matches and gaining three victories. In a very competitive match a 30-yard thunderbolt from Harry B gave Lancing a fantastic 1-0 victory over Ardingly. Goals from Suti K, Tise O and Patrick I-E continued a five-match winning run for the 2nd XI who beat Sevenoaks 3-1. The 3rd XI drew 1-1, and a goal-fest for the 4th XI which included a hat-trick for Henry R allowed them to gain a dominant 9-0 victory.

In other football news, Nelly G captained Wales U17s against France on Wednesday in the European Qualifiers in France – an outstanding achievement! 


Netball
Lancing faced tough triangular fixtures against Christ’s Hospital and Eastbourne. The 1st team claimed Team of the Week, showing grit to defeat Eastbourne after a close loss to Christ’s Hospital. Across all teams, there was impressive effort, teamwork, and resilience.


Hockey
Saturday fixtures vs Eastbourne 

The 1st XI played a competitive match, going into half time at 1-1 before Eastbourne capitalised on second half chances, the game ending 5-2.
MVP: Bryn H.

The U14A dominated Eastbourne with a 7-0 win, featuring a hat-trick from Oli R, who was named MVP.

The U15B secured a solid 6-0 victory, with MVP Gibrille B scoring a hat-trick.

The U14B earned a 2-1 win with some excellent team play; goals from Dylan B and MVP Rory R.

The 2nd team fought hard but lost 2-1, narrowly missing an equaliser on the final play of the game. MVP: Joe M.

The U15A won 3-0 in comfortable fashion, rotating players and controlling the game nicely.


House Pancake Race
A fantastic turnout saw Teme House take the win, followed by Saints' Boys (2nd) and Gibbs’ (3rd). Well done to all!


Brighton Half Marathon – A Huge Success for Macmillan Cancer Support
Our incredible team of students and staff took on the Brighton Half Marathon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, and we are delighted to announce that we have raised over £2,900 so far!

A massive congratulations to our student runners: Oscar B. Max W, Fin S, Charlie F, Cal N, Monty W, Harry D, Pranav A, Harry B, Mimi W, Ruby T, and Lara N, along with our dedicated staff team: Miss Andrew, Mr Nollett, Miss Shang, Mr Footman, Mrs Fryer, Miss Harlow, and Ms Edwards.

A special mention to Oscar B who completed the course in an impressive 84 minutes!

A heartfelt thank you to the Lancing College staff and students who provided fantastic support at the water station – your encouragement made all the difference.

Well done to everyone involved for their dedication and effort. This was more than just a race; it was a community coming together for a fantastic cause. Let’s keep the momentum going and see how much more we can raise!

On Sunday 9 March, Coco M and Bibi W will represent Sussex in hockey as they take on London South and Buckinghamshire. We wish them the very best of luck!

In rugby, Fourth Former Molly B (Manor House) played for Sussex U16s v Kent last weekend; a close win for Sussex 36-35 will Molly scoring 2 tries! 

And finally ... Fifth Former Izzy C (Sankey’s House – pictured) won the England Rugby U16s National Cup Regional Final for London and the South East at the weekend, with her club Pulborough RFC. A commendable performance for Izzy and a fantastic achievement for her and her club.
