Welcome to our new Heads of School

Our new Heads of School have begun their official duties after being commissioned during the last Assembly before the break. They will be leading the Prefect team and supporting the College staff in the smooth running of the school.

The four students commented on their new role:

'One of the first things that I learnt about the running of Lancing College, when I joined in the Lower Sixth, was how vital the Prefects are. This year’s Prefect team has had to take on even more roles of responsibility during these uncertain times, guiding daily operations and ensuring the smooth running of many events. They stand at the boundary between pupils and teachers, ensuring everyone’s views are represented; I think it is fair to say that the level of support and collaboration across the Prefect team has been exceptional. Therefore, to be selected as a leader of this team is a great privilege.

Being a Head of School has provided me with the opportunity to represent Lancing, through public speaking, meeting prospective students and facilitating discussions at Prefect meetings that aim to enhance the Lancing experience for the student body.

Having appreciated the academic scholarship and financial help Lancing has given me, I am thankful to have the chance to give something back to the College. I feel very proud that Lancing’s values of hard work, resilience and enthusiastic spirit have been recognised in me, and so I will strive to demonstrate these traits.'

Jess E - studying English, Drama & Theatre Studies and Psychology A Levels
'I am extremely grateful to have been appointed Head of School. After joining Lancing in the Fourth Form, I felt a part of the school straight away thanks to the vast number of opportunities and the welcoming community. I have strived to get involved with as much as I can, so being able to inspire others do the same feels very rewarding.

The role involves co-leading our fantastic Prefect team and being a representative for the student body. We are a voice for the students to be able to express how they feel and to highlight any concerns they might have. The four Heads of Schools also meet each week with the Head Master and the Senior Deputy Head, Mrs Dugdale, to tackle anything that might crop up.'

Ryan L - studying History, Politics and Geography A Levels
'It is an honour to be appointed as a Head of School, even though I have only been at Lancing for one year. It is my responsibility to represent pupils in meetings with senior staff, making sure everyone can enjoy their school life experience.

It has been a challenging year for pupils and staff due to COVID-19 circumstances. Therefore, it has become an important duty for us to protect the safety of everyone, especially by being a role model in following and promoting COVID measures. I am looking forward to working with the School Prefects and the other Heads of School to assist with the daily running of the College.'

Will S - studying Maths, History and Spanish at A Level
'I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be appointed as one of the Heads of School - it came as a real shock, but certainly a pleasant one! In the role we are expected to represent the student body and give light to opinions of our own but most critically those of the pupils. We aim to set the example for students at Lancing through our actions, and often help at (sadly currently smaller) Open Days in school.

I am hoping that during my time as one of the Heads of School, I am able to give back to the College, which has done so much for me.'
