I want you to know how proud all your teachers are of you. These past months have been the strangest that most of us have ever experienced. While there have been many highs, which we have loved hearing about and seeing photos of; I’m sure you will agree that there has often been an equal amount of lows. Each and every one of you has been amazing! You have worked hard and played hard. You have shown unwavering kindness in your thoughts, words and actions. You have given much thought to how you can go out into the world and do good during these difficult times. We could not have asked for any more.
It is at times like these where our resilience is important. Resilience comes from the Latin word ‘resilio’ – to leap or to spring back. How we respond to tricky times has a huge impact on our wellbeing. We cannot always choose what happens to us but we can choose how to react. We cannot always change things but we can change our attitude to things. We can learn how to bounce back from making mistakes, from disappointment, from unpleasant times.
This month’s action calendar from Action for Happiness is called Jump Back July and will help you to learn and practise important strategies for bouncing back from those tricky situations. If you would like to print your own copy just follow this link: https://www.actionforhappiness.org/jump-back-july
If I could pass only one message on to you wonderful young people, I would magpie it from Winnie the Pooh’s friend, Christopher Robin: you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think. Use this as a positive affirmation, say it to yourself over and over until you start to believe it, because it is true. When you believe this about yourself, you will have the power to bounce back even braver, stronger and smarter!
