Bannister Mile Returns: Bigger and Better Than Ever!

Lancing Prep Worthing is excited to announce the return of the Bannister Mile, a sponsored mile-long run scheduled for Monday, 30 June, on the school field.

Over 220 pupils will participate to commemorate the legacy of Sir Roger Bannister, who broke the four-minute mile barrier in 1954. This year’s event promises to be the largest yet, featuring a fun run where participants can don fancy dress, adding to the festive atmosphere with prizes for the most creative costumes.

Alongside the fun run, a competitive race and a parent-staff showdown will provide an afternoon of enjoyment and community spirit. Since its inception in 2018, the Bannister Mile has raised over £14,000 for local charities, and this year’s proceeds will support four House charities: Chestnut Tree House, Dogs Trust, Red Balloon Educational Trust Worthing, and the Bluefin Ward at Worthing Hospital.

Community members are invited to join the festivities from 2-4 pm, and donations can be made online here

Mr Payne, the PE teacher and event organiser, expressed enthusiasm for this milestone year, emphasising the importance of supporting local charities while fostering school spirit.
