Drama and music are thriving at Lancing Prep Worthing and this year more pupils than ever before entered the Speech and Drama competition that forms part of the annual Worthing Arts Festival. We also had one of our very gifted musicians taking part in the Music competition.
In all, some 45 pupils took part in various classes of the Speech and Drama competition across the Pre-Prep and Prep year groups from Reception to Year 8. There were many placings within the top four of many of the classes, including a clean sweep of the 5 Years Solo Verse class through to three very talented girls qualifying to compete in the finals night of the Junior Drama Festival Performer of the Year. Isabella B, Emma S and Piper S qualified on the strength of their marks in three classes they had competed in earlier in the week.
We were thrilled to hear that Piper won Young Drama Performer of the Year with Isabella Runner Up. It is truly remarkable for pupils from one school to pick up both top awards. Piper also collected the cup for the highest overall mark for 12 Years Prepared Prose and Amelia G was also invited to be present on the Finals evening where she was presented (jointly with Isabella) with trophy for the highest Drama Solo marks in the 9-11 Years category.
All the children have all done brilliantly and worked so hard to take part in this annual event. Huge thanks go to the parents for all their support and to Ms Howard, our visiting Drama teacher, who has worked with the children to prepare them; she has been very modest about receiving well-deserved awards for having taught the overall Winner and Runner-up!
In the Festival Music competition, Alex P in Year 6 was awarded 2nd place in the Under 16 Concerto Competition (violin), a remarkable achievement considering his age. Alex has also enjoyed much success in external competitions. He won the Trinity Music Academy Grade 8 Recital Class (violin) and gained 2nd place in the Piano Competition Junior category, 14 years and under (piano). We were also delighted to receive the news that Alex, along with another very talented musician, Grace S in Year 8, have been selected to take part in the Woodard Musician of the Year finals. These were originally scheduled for May but will now take place later in the year.
