Drama is vibrant at our school. With our performance space in the school hall and our\u00a0Drama rehearsal studio, we provide a rich learning experience for all our pupils.<\/p>\n

Drama at Lancing Prep Worthing builds self-confidence and public speaking skills; our pupils are encouraged to speak in public in a range of contexts throughout their time at our school.\u00a0Many pupils audition for parts in our all-school musicals, which involve every year group in some way. Older pupils also assist with front of house and many backstage roles. There is something for everyone to get involved with, and they do so with relish!<\/p>\n
Drama is taught as part of the English Curriculum from Year 4 and is an important vehicle to aid the development of speaking and five listening skills. Pupils study topics such as dramatic techniques employed in text. In Years 7 and 8, the Common Entrance and Common Academic Scholarship curricula are followed and pupils study selected Shakespeare plays, most recently\u00a0Romeo & Juliet\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Macbeth<\/em>, along with novels that are commonly dramatised, such as\u00a0Lord of Flies<\/em>\u00a0by William Golding.<\/p>\n Pupils\u2019 learning within the curriculum is enriched by visits and opportunities to experience theatrical productions first-hand. Year 4 brought Matilda to life through a series of workshops with our peripatetic drama teacher and the Worthing WOW festival visited Years 5 and 6 to share a classic children\u2019s tale, from Oscar Wilde.<\/p>\n Beyond the Drama elements of the curriculum taught within English lessons, we offer co-curricular activities, including a very popular weekly Drama Club, open to all ages.
