Scholarships
At Lancing Prep Worthing, we believe that every child can and should, ‘Love Learning, Be Kind and Go out into the World and Do Good’. Using these aims as a framework for life leads to future success and happiness.
We offer Scholarships to passionate and gifted pupils, to allow them to flourish in our community. Internal and external pupils will be considered for the following Scholarships: Academic, Art, Drama, Music and the ‘Love Learning All Rounder Award' for pupils demonstrating excellence in more than one area of the curriculum.
Our Scholarships are assessed in Year 6 and applied for entry in Year 7 (11+).
How to apply
Internal applicants:
Internal applications will be considered separately, and as such their candidature will be assessed on performance, excellence, potential, and current contribution to our community. All Year 6 pupils will automatically be entered for possible Scholarships. The most recent school report and recommendations from Heads of Department will be considered. All Scholarships are honorary, and the award of a scholarship does not in itself represent a reduction in fees. Parents of those children who are awarded scholarships are invited to apply for a means-tested bursary and will be required to complete a Statement of Financial Circumstances Form which will be taken into consideration. Depending upon circumstances, a bursary may be offered of up to 50 per cent remission of fees. It is important to understand that any scholarship or bursary awarded does not automatically roll on to the senior school. The demand for large bursaries at that stage is high and the process is thus competitive.
External applicants:
To register your interest in Scholarships at Lancing Prep Worthing for 2026 entry, please contact our Registrar, Mrs Fauvel, on 01903 201 123 or email worthing@lancing.org.uk clearly stating which Scholarship you wish to apply for.
Key Dates for 2026 entry
- The closing date for all applications is Tuesday 4 November 2025.
- Scholarship assessments will be held on Monday 24 November and Tuesday 25 November 2025.
- Results will be communicated to applicants by Friday 9 January 2026.
- We will ask you to confirm your acceptance of a Scholarship in writing as soon as possible, and by no later than Friday 30 January 2026.
Types of Scholarships available
Academic Scholarship
An academic Scholar at Lancing Prep Worthing is a pupil who is passionate and gifted. The application process is designed to ensure that the Scholars chosen will greatly enhance the academic life of our school and embody our school aims of love learning, be kind, and go out into the world to do good.
On the assessment day, pupils will sit papers in English (30 mins) and Maths (30 mins), and they will also be required to sit GL CAT4 tests (verbal, non-verbal, spatial, and quantitative).
Should your child require special access arrangements, please ensure that details are provided upon registration.
At Lancing Prep Worthing, we work with children’s academic capabilities, passions and talents rather than pushing them into a box labelled ‘attainment’. For this reason, all candidates will also have an interview with our Head. This will be a relaxed conversation, not an examination.
I have most definitely benefitted from my time at LPW. The school has given me a solid foundation for my future. I feel I have become more independent and adventurous, developed a strong work ethic, and increased my confidence. For me, being a Scholar is about loving your learning. It's about always achieving your best and pushing yourself to improve.
B. Faulkner, Sankey Academic Scholar
Art Scholarship
As an Art Scholar at Lancing Prep Worthing your child will have the opportunity to contribute and engage in a multitude of creative projects. We value individuality, creativity, skill, and passion; this department offers a vibrant art space, specialist teaching and access to a wide variety of artistic experiences.
Scholarships will be offered to candidates whom we feel will make an outstanding contribution to our community and demonstrate potential for advanced study.
On the assessment day, pupils will have the opportunity to share recent artwork and have time to discuss this with our Head of Art. Portfolios should consist of 4 or 5 pieces of recently created artwork, displaying a range of themes and mediums.
They will also have an interview with our Head where they can share their passion and interest in Art.
Being a Scholar has really helped develop my sense of independence and resilience. The teachers encouraged me to try new things and tackle things independently whilst still supporting and guiding me throughout. They spent time with me outside the classroom to go through my portfolio and make sure everything would be perfect.

Music Scholarship
Music is at the very heart of our school, and our pupils’ passion for playing their instruments is at the heart of all our music-making. We sing together as a community in celebration, and pupils receive specialist teaching within curriculum lessons. Our pupils play a wide variety of instruments, which are supported through outstanding peripatetic teaching. In this rich musical environment, Scholarships are offered to pupils who demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the musical life of our school. They would be expected to perform in concerts, soirées and as part of the ensembles and orchestra.
On the assessment day, candidates will meet with our Head of Music to discuss their interests and experiences with their chosen instrument.
All pupils will be asked to perform two contrasting pieces or songs on one or two instruments. These should be pieces they know well and feel confident to perform. They will be asked some questions related to their chosen material and will have a short aural and sight-reading test. Both their musicianship and potential will be considered. We recommend that pupils are playing at a minimum of grade 2, although grade 3 or above would be preferred.
An interview with our Head will allow each candidate to share their enthusiasm for Music and their hopes for the future.
I remember lots of things about LPW, but something that really stood out was how welcoming the community was. When I first joined, I immediately felt like I belonged, and coming straight into Year 6 from homeschooling really helped me integrate into the school… I think that LPW ingrains its core values into the minds of every pupil who studies there.

Sports Scholarship
Our Sports facilities are excellent, with a large school field, two netball courts and cricket nets. Team sports on offer include football, netball, hockey, cricket, and tag rugby. Pupils will have the opportunity to take part in fixtures and tournaments against other schools on a Wednesday afternoon.
The promotion of physical and mental health through exercise, and the development of collaborative skills and leadership through team sports is encouraged in every year group in our school.
Our Sports Scholarship is open to pupils who excel and demonstrate exceptional talent in one or more of our commonly played sports. However, we actively encourage applicants who exhibit all round sporting talent and perhaps specialise in additional sports to those played at Lancing Prep Worthing.
On the assessment day, candidates will take part in several different sporting activities, followed by a discussion with the Director of Sport.
Being a Sports Scholar gave me the passion and drive to excel in all my subjects and build strong foundations upon them, as well as achieving higher levels in sport. Being a Sports Scholar means having more responsibility in fixtures, and that others will look up to you for assistance. In Years 7 and 8, I developed a love of hockey, adding to my other strong sports of cricket and football in multiple fixtures against other schools.
H.Scrase, Sports Scholar
Drama Scholarship
We take all the creative arts seriously, none more so than drama. We have a stunning drama studio with bi-fold doors and are lucky enough to use the Theatre at Lancing College for some of our productions.
We offer weekly chargeable preparatory lessons for LAMDA examinations-this year’s results were outstanding with 65 pupils achieving a distinction.
Drama Club is one of our most popular extracurricular offerings and each year our school musicals amaze and inspire our pupils.
Our Drama Scholarships are open to pupils who want to develop and nurture their love of performance. Applicants could share highlights of their experiences with the theatre in their application. However, we are primarily looking for pupils with potential. If you love to act, sing, and dance you will find the assessment day at LPW a lot of fun.
On the assessment day, candidates will take part in workshops led by our Heads of Drama and Music and will have the opportunity to perform a short monologue, song and/or dance (no more than 1 minute each).
LPW was amazing at preparing me for my scholarship; not only did we have an incredible LAMDA teacher, all of my teachers played a massive role in getting me there by taking time out of their busy days just to help me one-on-one. It really is an experience like no other. I could not have dreamed of better support.
P. Balchin, Drama Scholar
High School Musical was an exuberant and happy production!

Love Learning All Rounder Scholarship
This All Rounder Award is named after our school's aim of ‘Love Learning’. We nurture in all our pupils a love of learning to enable them to maximise their academic potential. This Scholarship is awarded to individuals who are talented and passionate but fall outside the remit of our Academic, Music, Art, Drama, and Sport Scholarships. These pupils will make a difference to the school across a range of disciplines in tandem with achievement in the academic core, all the while developing their own skills.
When I first heard about the scholarship process, I never felt like there was a scholarship for me until I heard about the All Rounder Award. I was really passionate about lots of different things and enjoyed not feeling the pressure of one subject. My application process taught me that hard work is rewarded and that it may not always be easy, but you will improve. Teachers and peers went out of their way to make sure I achieved the best results possible. For that, I will be eternally grateful.
E. Makgill, All Rounder Scholar
